Obituary for Agnes Rita MacDonald

Agnes Rita MacDonald, of The Arbors in Stoneham MA, passed into eternal rest November 8, 2018 at the Melrose Wakefield Hospital after a brief illness. She was 83 years old.
Agnes Rita was formerly from Medford, MA were she resided most of her life. She was the only child of Margaret (MacLeod) and Angus MacDonald. She attended and graduated from the Medford Public Schools and later enrolled in secretarial school. She worked for many years in the office of the President of Tufts University. She attended the North Street Congregational Church when she lived in Medford. At the time of her passing she was an attendant at The First Baptist Church of Reading. Agnes Rita was also a volunteer for many years at Symmes Hospital, Arlington in the gift shop.
Although Agnes Rita was an only child she enjoyed close relationships with her Boston area cousins as well as her Canadian cousins whom she maintained frequent contact. Although separated by many miles, she spoke to them almost daily and appreciated their visits when they traveled to the Boston area. Agnes Rita was proud of her Scottish Canadian roots and affiliated with various Scottish Canadian organizations such as the Canadian American Club, The Cape Breton Gaelic Club and the Needham Scottish Presbyterian Church where services were held in Gaelic (which she could speak fluently). In her youth, she enjoyed traveling to the Canadian Maritimes to visit relatives and to Weirs Beach, NH with her family for vacation. She was an avid reader and liked knitting and crocheting.
After her parents died, Agnes Rita spent a great deal of time with her Boston area cousins and was included in their family events. She was always thrilled when an addition was made to the family as she enjoyed holding the babies and interacting with the children. She was known for her biscuits which she would bring to family holiday gatherings.
The family of Agnes Rita would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of The Arbors where she resided as they were very warm, caring and helpful towards her. She was very happy there amongst the friendly staff and the several friends that she knew from her days in Medford.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the DeVito Funeral Home 1145 Mass. Ave., Arlington on Tuesday commencing at 10 am and to a Funeral Home Service at 11 am. She will be laid to rest with her parents at The Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Audubon Society 225 Varick St.,New York,NY 10014 would be appreciated.
